Things to do on International Drive

Local Art Night - I-drive Orlando

20 local artists and vendors will transform DRIP

Performance art group, DRIP,  is hosting Local Art Night in their art and music venue located on International Drive in Orlando, FL. Celebrating established and up-and-coming local visual artists, performance groups and art friendly vendors, this bi-monthly event will feature aerialists, dancers, painters, photographers, pole dancing, body painting, henna, jewelry and apparel design.

Local Art Night will open on Thursday, August 27 at 8:00 PM, with works by Maria E. Alvarez, Art 4/20, Chelsea Bobola, Cesar Castro, Giancarlo Carnesella, Melanie Elizabeth, Carolyn Hutchins, Christina Liu, Irl Milam, Timothy Morton, Bobbie-Lynn Nader, Joseph Wojcicki, Liz Watkins and more.

The evening will be filled with performances happening every 15 minutes including BalaChandra Belly Dance, Beach Pole Fitness, Florida Tribal Dance, Orlando Youth Circus and Tajma Dance.

The Great Escape Room will be on-site offering a complimentary interactive puzzle game and guests will have a chance to sample Neon Energy Drink's new glowing beverage.

An 11 foot high pole will be sponsored by premier pole fitness studio, Beach Pole Fitness.  Joining us from Brevard County, Beach Pole Fitness will display feats of strength, beauty and art through pole dancing.

DJ ElectroArt will be spinning art lounge grooves while guests browse and purchase art.  There will be opportunities to meet the artists and hear stories about for their recent designs and creations.

Guests can grab a drink of choice from DRIP's craft beer and wine bar while mingling with other like-minded art loving individuals.  Beverage selections will include rainbow colored beer, craft and local beers, wine, sangria, blue mimosa, energy bombs and non alcoholic selections.

The night will conclude with live band, The Public Records, performing a full record from start to finish, selected by public voting on Facebook.  This month's public selection is "This is Spinal Tap", music created for the 1984 American rock music mockumentary with the same name.

Local Art Night admission is $5 and includes entrance between 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM, dj music, performances, art stroll and live band. Tickets are available online at www.ILoveDRIP.com or at the door.

DRIP in May - no age restrictions!

A message from Jessica Mariko, DRIP founder:

Before opening DRIP on I-drive, I had an idea about the age range of the future guests but after we opened, I was pleasantly surprised by the wide age range of people who attended.  Age was not the thing they had in common; they were all open minded.  They were people who googled "out of the box things to do in Orlando" or "what to do besides the amusement parks" and found us.

85 yr old women stood besides 21 yr old men and high fived.  Once and a while we hosted a children's birthday party, family affair or let our cast members bring their children to the show and I couldn't help but melt when I saw the look of awe in the eyes of the younger people.  We created DRIP to bring out the inner child in adults so children felt naturally at home.  It brought so much joy to me and afterwards their mothers thanked us for creating an educational experience for their little ones. (DRIP was not designed to be "educational", it was designed to excite people with things they have never experienced and therefore became educational.)

I thought, if a 85 yr old woman could stand next to 21 yr old man, then maybe they could also stand next to a 15 yr old struggling with their personal identity or a 4 year old who wants his white DRIP t-shirt turned into a cape?  I'm not sure honestly.. but we only live once and we're going to try it out.
